Roll Cage Fabrication

I purchased a tubing bender from Pro-Tools and bought some .120 DOM steel tubing and got to work.  First the car was completely stripped, doors windows, trunk, hood, wiring, everything except the suspension was removed.

First I made the main and front hoops.

1/8" thick steel plates were welded to the chassis anywhere a tube would be attached, then the main and front hoops were welded in.

The down tubes and various other braces were cut, bent and notched.

Then I got to work welding it all in place.  There are tubes behind the front and rear seat to attach 4-point restraints to.  All of the tubes were tucked in as close to the body work as possible.  I plan on making the car look fairly stock from the outside so visible roll bars would ruin that effect.

On the advise of a few friends I did a bit more work to the roll cage.  Holes were cut in the roof over the main hoop weld points so they could be fully welded (unfortunately none of these pictures turned out so you'll just have to take my word on it).  I also added two bars going forward from the front hoop to the strut towers through the firewall.
